when i was a kid during fascism and democracy in portugal tv and teaters had lots of cartoons which were al psicadelic under the efect of the acids and it was a sub-product of pop culture and for kids . now its a mjora tendence in portuguese arts scenario where artists with an academci background work damn well. another major tendencie is for artists, also with academic tendencies, to work as naifs which is suposed to be a kind of art without a major academic formation and you can se this in expositions across portugal
